Yet another day at school during the holidays! Today we finished applying the first layer of plywood on the frame and have started on our second and final layer. The first layer is surprisingly strong but just to make it extra sturdy we're putting on a second layer of plywood which will be completed by the end of the week. Another small tweak to the plan was that we intended to have a jagged edge to resemble the broken off part of the submarine but have decided to remove it due to safety concerns. The first layer of plywood was glued and screwed onto the conning tower and we used ratchet tie down straps to keep the shape of the curves around the conning tower and minimize gaps in-between the ply and frame. The video below shows an entire days worth of hard work and Mikaere explains some general safety practices while working in the workshop.
